Young Athlete Received Occipital Neuralgia Treatment

occipital neuralgia treatmentThis young patient suffered from severe head and neck pain in the back of her head after a sports-related injury. She had daily headaches for years. She was diagnosed with post-traumatic occipital neuralgia.

After she failed conservative measures with physiotherapy and medications, she was sent to see us for possible surgical intervention.  She underwent a decompression or nerve release of the greater occipital nerves with a removal or resection of the third and lesser occipital nerves. She reported that her symptoms were improved within a week of surgery, and ultimately at 5.5 months she is reporting near-complete resolution of the pain that she was experiencing in the back of the head and neck.

She was so excited she even got a picture with her referring doctor -- Dr. Matthew Sedgley with Medstar.  We want to thank him for trusting us to treat his patients!   That’s what we like to call teamwork!
