Dr. Eric H. Williams

At the office of Dr. Eric H. Williams, we believe that while medication has its place in treating chronic pain, it isn’t always the answer.  If you are lucky, long-term chronic use of pain medication may work to mask nerve pain and allow you to function, but it usually does not treat the underlying cause of the pain to fix the problem.  It is similar to putting a gag in someone’s mouth who is screaming out loud because they just broke their. You might not have to hear them scream quite as loudly, but it does not really fix the reason why they are screaming.  They need a doctor to reduce the fracture and put the bone back in place.

That’s why Dr. Williams—a board-certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with advanced fellowship training in Peripheral Nerve Surgery under world-renowned pioneer Dr. A. Lee Dellon—has dedicated his career to finding the real problem behind a patient’s pain.  If we can find the problem that is causing the pain from a peripheral nerve standpoint, many times there is real hope of providing long-lasting improvements without chronic medications because we can treat the underlying problem instead of simply trying to cover it up.  The advances over the past decade in peripheral nerve surgery have allowed us to frequently obtain real, lasting surgical solutions to nerve pain.

From nerve decompression in patients with diabetic neuropathy to post-surgical pain, meralgia paresthetica, superior cluneal nerve entrapment, and tarsal tunnel treatment, Dr. Williams has provided innovative surgical techniques that directly address damaged or compressed nerves.

  • Nerve Decompression. This procedure relieves pressure on a pinched or compressed nerve by carefully releasing or removing the surrounding structures—such as bone, muscle, fascia, or scar tissue—that are causing irritation. By addressing the source of compression, patients often experience significant pain relief and improved nerve function.
  • Nerve Repair.  When a nerve has been cut or severely injured, nerve repair surgery seeks to reconnect the two ends with delicate suturing techniques. The goal is to restore continuity, giving the nerve the best possible chance to regenerate and regain its function to provide sensation or movement.
  • Nerve Resection. In cases where a nerve is badly damaged or no longer functioning properly, a small segment may be surgically removed. This approach can help reduce or eliminate severe, unrelenting pain when other treatments have not been successful.

Born into a family of healthcare professionals—his father a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon and his mother a nurse—Dr. Eric H. Williams grew up with a front-row seat to the healing power of medicine. As a young man, he was captivated by the transformative results of reconstructive surgery, where lives were changed not just physically but emotionally. That inspiration guided him through years of training at Johns Hopkins, Vanderbilt, and the University of Alabama, before completing advanced fellowship training in peripheral nerve surgery with world-renowned pioneer Dr. A. Lee Dellon.

Dr. Williams carries that same sense of purpose into every patient interaction. His approach blends technical precision with a deep sense of compassion, recognizing that chronic pain affects more than the body—it reshapes lives, relationships, and futures. Patients from across the country seek his expertise when traditional treatments have failed, drawn by his reputation as a surgeon who not only listens but also offers hope where others could not.
