Chronic Knee Pain After Knee Replacement-Better

The patient had 4 years of severe chronic knee after her knee replacement. She is one month out from surgery a resection of the medial retinacular nerve, a branch to the medial knee. This is an unnecessary nerve that provide sensation to the knee joint. She has had tremendous relief of her pain. She is able to walk more comfortably and bend her knee. About 3-5% of all patients with knee replacement will have severe pain after replacement. Many of them will respond to removing these nerves.
