We love sharing a GROUP WIN! Sometimes “team work makes the dream work” as the saying goes.
This delightful patient had several years of refractory heel pain that failed years of therapy for suspected plantar fasciitis. In reality we thought that she did have some findings consistent with plantar fasciitis but also had very good evidence for a variant of tarsal tunnel syndrome with compression of the branches off of the lateral plantar nerve that causes severe heel pain. Some folks refer to this as Baxter’s neuropathy.
This patient actually had two problems masking as one. Therefore, John Senatore DPM and I brought her to the operating room to release the tibial nerve and it’s branches downstream that go to the heel including the calcaneal nerves, and the lateral plantar nerve and “Baxter’s nerve.” Dr Senatore performed a plantar fascia release for her and assisted with further adjustment of her shoe wear.
The patient is just shy of three months from surgery, her original pain in gone after three years and she is building up strength and endurance to get back to the long distance walking she loved so much before this all happened.
We are excited to celebrate with her!!! No pain….. No pain!
